Department of Aeronautical Engineering
Establishment and development: 
  • The Department of Aeronautical Engineering was established by the University Decision on 18/4/1996. The Aeronautical Engineering program was started from the academic year 1996-97.
  • Ministry of Education and Training approved the Aeronautical Engineering program in 1999 by Decision no 1468/QÑ-BGD&ÑT dated 24/4/1999. 
  • From its establishment in 1996, the Aeronautical Engineering Department was under direct administration of the Board of Rectors, until 15/6/2000, it merged with the Department of Maritime Engineering and the Department of Automobile Engineering to form the Faculty of Transportation Engineering.
  • From 1996 to 2001, the Department admitted annually 30 students to 3rd year from the best 10% of 2nd year students of the university. 
  • From 2000, the Department admitted annually 30 students to 3rd year from the best 20% of 2nd year students of the Faculty. 
  • Vietnamese-French Excellent Engineer Program started in 1999 with an annual intake of 100 students from the best 10% of first year students of the university. Among them, 20 students choose aero-engineering branch in their 3rd year.

    Employment of graduates:
    Total graduates (from HK94 to HK00) are 180, among them: 
  • One third of them are awarded overseas scholarship for Master and/or PhD training in France (ENSMA), Singapore (SMA, NUS), Japan (Ritsumeikan), USA (MIT, Michigan, Illinois, Florida), Korea (Konkuk), Indonesia (Bandung)… 
  • One third of graduates are working in aviation industry such as with Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines, Cathay Pacific, SNECMA, GE, Pratt & Whitney, Vasco, Artus… 
  • One third of graduates are working in other industries such as with Schlumberger, Honda…

  • Training objectives
    * The undergraduate aeronautical engineering program stresses on the knowledge of the fundamentals of the profession so as to provide a meaningful multi-disciplinary foundation for the student's entire career span. While many students enter industry directly after completing the B.E. program, a significant number of them elects to pursue graduate work in aeronautical or other engineering fields. 
    * The capability requirements of aviation industry fall into different specialized sectors: 
    - Aerodynamics, aerodynamic design of aerial vehicles. 
    - Aircraft structures, airframe design modification, airframe manufacturing.
    - Aircraft engines and propulsion. 
    - Flight mechanics, flight control systems, computer-based aircraft equipment. 
    * Aeronautical engineering graduates are trained to be capable of performing the following activities:
    • Exploitation and maintenance of aircrafts.
    • Evaluation of airworthiness and performance of aircrafts.
    • Participation in design of aircrafts and aerodynamics-related marine crafts.
    • Adaptation of aeronautical engineering to other fields.
    • Research in aeronautics and related fields.
  • Training program 
    Training program in aeronautical engineering at HCMC University of Technology was certified by the Ministry of Education and Training in the Decision no 1468/QÑ-BGD&ÑT dated 24/4/1999. Important aeronautical courses are
